Missy Piggy Returns!

Abracadabra!! And the missing Missy Piggy is back!

I've been away for a little while now and partly because of work and partly because.... *Drums rolls....*

Because I have been swept off my feet by a lovely gentleman.

It wasn't love at first sight (I've actually known him for more than 3 years now)
But he certainly caught my attention when I least expected.

So I recently revisited and ranked Mr Ace with Love Hack Matrix.
And he scored at a 90+ percentile and no one has ever... I mean seriously no one EVER came up at such a high score.

Thank you Mr Ace. Thank you for being amazing, charming and intriguing.
Thank you for discovering me and embarking on this journey together.

You are awesome.

What Does He Want? Now What?

So just like most people, getting into a relationship doesn't always mean boom-bam, fireworks, instant butterflies in your stomach and sweeping you off your feet. Sometimes things can be so draggggggyyyyy that you don't even know what stage or what else you should be doing next....

I know Mr T. for must have been around 8 years now. So we started off awkwardly as online friends (we knew each other from Friendster *roll eyes I know*), party friends. He always took good care of me even when I drink myself silly and made sure he sent me back home safely. So over the years we have been in and out of our own relationships but me and Mr T. never got together as a couple despite we did indicate interests towards each other.

Now... This is an interesting situation. We've known each other for a pretty good number of years now. Even though we don't meet up often. We kinda know each other reasonably well by now. (have 1 or 2 kids, travel and be nerdy together) I know I can be in my comfy tee + shorts, messy hair and really just be myself infront of Mr T. He's very geeky and eccentric in his own sense. I kinda find that cute. I remember accompanying Mr T. to shop for fresh towels and toiletries for his then girlfriend who's visiting Singapore and I thought that's really sweet of him.

Sounds like a fairytale in the making so far? Here comes the BUT................

This fella is in a long distance relationship with a Malaysian lady. So he's attached, still indicating interest(?!) and pretty much an arse in my humble opinion. So now what? Drop and ignore him?

Random ramblings.... If it's meant to be, it's meant to be.... I'm not even sure what triggered me to write this article... Perhaps I should stop asking myself and put this into another perspective. Now Mr T., what do you want?

How to Tell if a Guy is Interested in You?

If you have been following my blog since the beginning, you will have noticed that I have been focusing a lot about me on finding out what I want for myself and how to be a better person in life.

But now hang on a second....! Before we start to evaluate if a guy is potential material (read Love Hack part 1 and part 2), shouldn't we focus on the other party and find out some clues if he is even interested in the first place?

There is this cute guy who reappeared recently and let's call him Mr Law for now. He's slightly younger than me, with a progressive career path and is just very adorable. I find him surprisingly humble given that I have seen so many snorts in his field of profession.

We first met up in a coffee session as he works nearby my office and caught up again over lunch. We shared quite a lot about our experiences in our dates but seems to shy away from anything that's beyond platonic between us.

So I saw his Facebook on his recent travels and managed to catch up again on our recent happenings. We spoke about attending dating events together and being each other "wingman". Then we also joke about escaping the event together if it's boring or if there's no good potentials. Ah... how cute is that?

Let's do a quick Love Hack scoring for Mr Law now...  Ah.... Sweet... I think I'm a bit bias towards Mr Law and he got a decent score of 412. *Me grins* I was also doing a quick read up on articles and articles on finding out clues on how to find out if a guy is interested in you. Oh boy... There are some pretty hardcore and long winded tips out there but I think I will like to zoom down to the major big 3.

1. Communication
He will be talking to you a lot! Text messaging, Facebook and even phone calls. Very often if a guy is interested in you, he will be communicating very or fairly frequently. He remembers the tiny details that you briefly mentioned or things that you don't even remember talking about previously. He wants to know you better, he tells you about himself, he compliments you and shares his listening ear when needed.

2. Asking You Out
He will be sourcing for pretty much all kind of opportunities to ask you out and to see you in person. I have a guy friend who even want to tag along for dinner with me and my Mum! This is him wanting to see you to increase his opportunity to get to know you better.

P.S. Mr Law just asked me out for lunch today.

3. Body Language and Behavior
He looks at you a lot, mirrors your body language, give his best attempt in charming you by putting up his best behavior, groom himself (oh no, Mr Law says he's meeting me in his bermudas and singlet today :/), listens to you attentively, display interest in the things you do (even when he know nuts about it) and the most obvious hint will be teasing you in a friendly manner.

I always believe that when a guy is genuinely interested in you, he will be sending off signals that's so strong you can even detect from Mars. So now, the usual skeptical me says Mr Law is probably in his exploration phase and of course there's no harm getting to know one more friend! So relax, have fun and enjoy the time together! (Tomorrow we will be going singing!) You never know!!

Why Am I Single?

Yes... The gazillion dollar question. In this journey to seek for love, I have repeatedly asked myself many many times....... "Missy Piggy, why are you still single?"

I am comfortable being single and honestly quite enjoy doing my own stuff sometimes. Like most girls, I don't think I have any lack of attention but somehow the number of compatible potentials are sometimes equivalent to a golden egg.

Curious by nature (and somewhat analytical), I figured that I should gather some feedback from a few close friends and adopt a different view from another perspective. And so I decided to create a simple questionnaire and send it out to some close friends and hopefully get some valuable insights from the results.

But what should I be asking?

Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 main questions:

1) From a rating of 1 to 5, please rate Missy Piggy on the following criteria:
  • Attractiveness
  • Intelligence
  • Talent
  • Confidence
  • Spontaneity
  • Sensuality
  • Independence
  • Supportive
  • Humor
  • Temperament
2)Why do you think Missy Piggy is single?

3)What can increase the chances of Missy Piggy finding someone?

Hohoho... This is getting interesting and there will be some great truth or dare moments.

Getting on SurveyMonkey now! Stay tuned for the final results!!!

The Battle of Modern Dating - OkCupid, Match.com, SingaporeLoveLinks, Tinder

It's no longer rocket science that online dating has changed the way people meet. While some people still find the concept of online dating strange or intimidating, statistics has shown a huge hike in the number of people finding for love, online.

Here's a few platforms that I have used and my personal feedback and ratings.

Ratings based out of 10:
Friendship Score: Have I got to know any friends from this platform?
Potential Rating: How are the quality of potentials on this site?
Overall Experience: Did I enjoy my dating experience from this platform?

OkCupid
Perhaps one of the most popular free dating sites, OkCupid uses a mathematical algorithm to determine compatibility based on member-created quizzes and multiple-choice questions. OkCupid says it’s algorithm is extremely accurate if you’re honest and know what you want.”
Ok now, let's all take the honest pill and do a confession game. How brutally honest can we be online? I went thru a longgggg list of questionnaires and I personally do not think the profiling mechanism works for me. The questions are not customized accordingly to our region and you do get some cultural insensitive questions. Yes you can choose not to answer them, but I believe that will be tabulated into the final results too.
Friendship Score: 5/10
Potential Rating: 5/10
Overall Experience: 4/10

Cost: Free

Ok, I could be slightly critical here but the website was rather sluggish and not the most well designed. As it is a free platform with integrated instant messaging system. I find it rather annoying to keep having window popups and have chosen to disable this function. Plus point? They have a mobile version but it is even more user unfriendly and the poorly programmed processes seems to consume your phone's battery like a juice vampire. This platform didn't keep me engaged for long and the quality of friends I've made OkCupid is rather poor. Tough love perhaps.

SingaporeLoveLinks.com
This is another website I have tried before and found their demographics of men available in Singapore quite interesting. The search function is pretty standard and you can search for guys within your preferred age group as well as specify other prerequisites. You can also have instant chats with members who are logged in to the website at the same time as you.

The standard membership that allows you to put up a profile and browsing other people's profiles is free.

Gold membership is S$29.98/month. A free member cannot communicate with another free member, but Gold membership gives you the privilege to get in touch with free and paid members alike.

Platinum membership is S$39.99/month. Pretty much the same as a gold member but a platinum membership allows your profile to appear first in searches, above Gold and Standard members.

Unless you have some spare cash lying around, I do not think the platinum membership is necessary as anyone seriously looking for love will go thru small hassles to review the entire listing of members regardless of the category of your membership.

Friendship Score: 7/10
Potential Rating: 6/10
Overall Experience: 8/10

Cost: Free if you have a kickarse profile that can attract paid members to drop you a note. Otherwise, paid memberships starts at S$29.90.

I've actually got to know some pretty cool friends from this platform and we remain as good friends till now. I'm giving a slightly lower rating for potentials as I find most people on this platform tends to be looking for mainly friendship and nothing more.

Match.com

I believe Match.com is one of the pioneers of dating websites. The membership system has evolved over the years and it is currently a paid service online site. Signing up, creating your profile and browsing available matches is free. But you cannot contact any member unless you have paid for at least 1 month of membership.

Friendship Score: 7/10
Potential Rating: 8/10
Overall Experience: 8/10

Cost: One month of membership starts at around S$45.

Yes I have given Match.com the highest rating among these three online dating websites. As everyone is required to be a paid member before exchanging messages. I see more quality in the messages and there are more genuine and sincere guys on this platform. The website has a good mix of demographics as well but I think the steep price has steered some members away in adopting other dating sites. Less quantity, more quality. My previous ex of 2.5 years is from Match.com.

Tip: Sign up for a free profile and wait for them to send you a promotional email.

Now how about the hyped mobile dating app.....

Tinder

A casual dating app where you have 500 characters or less to tell possible dates what you're all about. It is like the twitter version of dating app and all you have to do is to swipe left or right based on looking at pictures of people. If they find you attractive too, its a match and you exchange messages from there on.

Friendship Score: 4/10
Potential Rating: 2/10
Overall Experience: 4/10

Cost: Free

Fun factor high but novelty factor wears off fast too. If you are looking for quick hookups and instant gratifications, this app is quite interesting to adopt. For a serious relationship, I think probably not.

Dating Tips

I've always put in effort to formulate a decent profile and put up good quality photos to maximize my chances of knowing more friends. I would suggest everyone to at least write a short profile to reflect the best of yourself and show your best photos! Of course, you don't really know the actual person behind the screen so go have fun knowing new friends but date carefully!!

Golden Rules for Finding your Life Partner by Dov Heller, M.A.

When it comes to making the decision about choosing a life partner, no one wants to make a mistake. Yet, with a divorce rate of close to 50%, it appears that many are making serious mistakes in their approach to finding Mr./Miss. Right!

If you ask most couples who are engaged why they're getting married, they'll say: "We're in love"; I believe this is the ..1 mistake people make when they date.Choosing a life partner should never be based on love. Though this may sound "not politically correct", there's a profound truth here.

Love is not the basis for getting married. Rather, love is the result of a good marriage. When the other ingredients are right, then the love will come. Let me say it again: "You can't build a lifetime relationship on love alone"; You need a lot more!!!

Here are five questions you must ask yourself if you're serious about finding and keeping a life partner.

QUESTION ..1: Do we share a common life purpose?

Why is this so important? Let me put it this way: If you're married for 20 or 30 years, that's a long time to live with someone. What do you plan to do with each other all that time? Travel, eat and jog together? You need to share something deeper and more meaningful. You need a common life purpose.

Two things can happen in a marriage:
(1) You can grow together, or
(2) You can grow apart.

50% of the people out there are growing apart. To make a marriage work, you need to know what you want out of life!

Bottom line; marry someone who wants the same thing.

QUESTION ..2: Do I feel safe expressing my feelings and thoughts with this person?

This question goes to the core of the quality of your relationship. Feeling safe means you can communicate openly with this person. The basis of having good communication is trust - i.e. trust that I won't get "punished"; or hurt for expressing my honest thoughts and feelings. A colleague of mine defines an abusive person as someone with whom you feel afraid to express your thoughts and feelings. Be honest with yourself on this one. Make sure you feel emotionally safe with the person you plan to marry.

QUESTION ..3: Is he/she a mensch?

A mensch is someone who is a refined and sensitive person. How can you test? Here are some suggestions. Do they work on personal growth on a regular basis? Are they serious about improving themselves? A teacher of mine defines a good person as "someone who is always striving to be good and do the right ";. So ask about your significant other: What do
they do with their time? Is this person materialistic? Usually a materialistic person is not someone whose top priority is character refinement.

There are essentially two types of people in the world:
(1) People who are dedicated to personal growth and
(2) people who are dedicated to seeking comfort.
Someone whose goal in life is to be comfortable will put personal comfort ahead of doing the right thing. You need to know
that before walking down the aisle.

QUESTION ..4: How does he/she treat other people?

The one most important thing that makes any relationship work is the ability to give. By giving, we mean the ability to give another person pleasure.

Ask: Is this someone who enjoys giving pleasure to others or are they wrapped up in themselves and self- absorbed?

To measure this, think about the following: How do they treat people whom they do not have to be nice to, such as waiters, bus boys, taxi drivers, etc.. How do they treat their parents and siblings? Do they have gratitude and appreciation?

If they don't have gratitude for the people who have given them everything; can you do nearly as much for them? You can be sure that someone, who treats others poorly, will eventually treat you poorly as well.

QUESTION ..5: Is there anything I'm hoping to change about this person after we're married?

Too many people make the mistake of marrying someone with the intention of trying to "improve"; them after they're married. As a colleague of mine puts it: "You can probably expect someone to change after marriage for the worse" If you cannot fully accept this person the way they are now, then you are not ready to marry them.

In conclusion, dating doesn't have to be difficult and treacherous. The key is to try leading a little more with your head and less with your heart. It pays to be as objective as possible when you are dating; to be sure to ask questions that will help you get to the key issues. Falling in love is a great feeling, but when you wake up with a ring on your finger, you don't want to find yourself trouble because you didn't do your homework.

Another perspective. ..

There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance.. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of or at least minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going anywhere relationships. Observe the relationships around you.

Pay attention...
Which ones lift and which ones lean?

Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?

Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going downhill?

When you leave certain people do you feel better or feel worse?

Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know, or appreciate you?

The more you seek quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love and truth around you...the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of your life.

An African proverb states, "Before you get married, keep both eyes open, and after you marry, close one eye"; Before you get involved and make a commitment to someone, don't let lust, desperation, immaturity, ignorance, pressure from others or a low self-esteem make you blind to warning signs. Keep your eyes open, and don't fool yourself that you can change someone or that what you see as faults aren't really that important.

Do you bring out the best in each other?

Do you compliment and compromise with each other, or do you compete, compare and control?

What do you bring to the relationship?

Do you bring past relationships, past hurt, past mistrust, past pain?

You can't take someone to the altar to alter them. You can't make someone love you or make someone stay.

If you develop self-esteem, spiritual discernment, and "a life"; you won't find yourself making someone else responsible for your happiness or responsible for your pain. Seeking status, sex, and security are the wrong reasons to be in a relationship.

WHAT KEEPS A RELATIONSHIP STRONG IS:

1. TRUST

2. COMMUNICATION

3. INTIMACY

4. A SENSE OF HUMOR

5. SHARING TASKS

6. SOME GETAWAY TIME WITHOUT BUSINESS OR CHILDREN

7. DAILY EXCHANGES (meal, shared activity, hug, call, touch, notes, etc.)

8. SHARING COMMON GOALS AND INTERESTS

9. GIVING EACH OTHER SPACE TO GROW WITHOUT FEELING INSECURE

10. GIVING EACH OTHER A SENSE OF BELONGING AND ASSURANCES OF COMMITMENT

If these qualities are missing, the relationship will erode as resentment withdrawal, abuse, neglect, and dishonesty; and pain will replace.
